Undergraduate Admissions:
In order to be admitted to the B.A. Degree, the student must meet the entrance requirements of the University and the requirements for students entering a senior major field in the College of Arts and Sciences. For a review of these requirements the student should consult the University Bulletin or discuss the matter with his or her academic advisor. An up-to-date statement of requirements is accessible on the web, at bulletin.uga.edu. Usually one is admitted in the College of Arts and Sciences. The student may declare a major in drama at any time but the first two years are generally given over to satisfying the core requirements of the degree. During the freshmen and sophmore years, the student will work with a professional advisor in the office of the College of the Arts and Sciences. That advisor is available to answer questions and solve problems for the student. At the end of the sophmore year, a person declaring a drama major will be assigned an advisor in the Department of Drama. Thereafter, most of a student's coursework will be in the field of drama.
Graduate Admissions:
Full admission in the M.F.A. program requires an undergraduate degree with a major in dramatic art or its equivalent. An academic average of at least
2.6 and a minimum of 800 composite (verbal and quantitative combined) on the GRE are normally required. Foreign students whose mother tongue is not
English must have a score of at least 550 on the TOEFL. All require evidence of experience and talent in the practice of dramatic art in the form of
auditions, portfolios, scripts, etc. In some specialties there is a limit on the total number of M.F.A. students admitted. In case of the performance
area, students are admitted only every three years. More information on graduate programs can be requested from the Graduate School.
Film and Theatre Minor Admissions
Admission into the Film or Theatre Minor programs requires the student to fill out a Declaration of Minor Form. For Theatre Minor, please submit the form to Ursula Butler. For Film Minor, submit the form to Richard Neupert.
