In these uncertain times, The Willson Center is taking the lead in supporting graduate students and community-based artists and practitioners. Shelter Projects, a micro-fellowship program to support in the creation of shareable reflections on the current pandemic through the arts and humanities:

Daja M. Rice, originally from Spring Valley, NY, is a performing & teaching artist and writer. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Performance and Education from North Carolina Central University. Daja has spent most of her career performing on the stage and enhancing the personal, professional, and artistic development of youth through the performing arts. She is currently pursuing her M.F.A. in Acting at University of Georgia. Being called to be a light in darkness, she lives and works by a standard founded on Christian principles and embraces opportunities to create meaningful art with conviction, integrity, and passion.

The Shelter Project, entitled Still will follow a single character’s journey to embracing her new normal of stillness during this pandemic. It will inspire all viewers to look at stillness as more than confinement or a method of hiding, but as an opportunity to ground ourselves in the basic gifts of life: family, friends, life, health, quality time, etc.  In addition, it would suggest that we all “still” have these crucial elements of our lives to celebrate.
