CHARACTER LIST

The Royals:

ALCESTIS, the queen, a mercurial soul, often switching between the extremes of personality; thoughtful and loyal

ADMETUS, the king, willfully ignorant of his privilege as the man in power; has never had to earn anything in his life

PERICLYMENE, Admetus’s mother and favored parent, coming to terms with the behavior of the son she raised

PHERES, Admetus’s father and the former king, an aged replica of his son

EUMELUS, young son of Alcestis and Admetus, innocent and curious

The Servants:

MAID, serves the queen, a nosy gossip with a soft side

SERVANT, has dedicated their life to serving the king’s house, takes their job very seriously

The Gods:

HERAKLES, son of Zeus, blissfully unaware of his privileged place in society; truly kindhearted and wants to do what’s right, but sometimes serves an oppressive system in doing so

APOLLO, god of the sun, (not-so-)secretly in love with Admetus

THANATOS, goddess of death; she is too old for this nonsense

All members of the ensemble perform as the CHORUS of citizens as well as performing one of the roles listed above.
