The department would like to congratulate Associate Professor Vivian Appler and Professor/Department Head Julie Ray on being awarded the Kay Parker Professorship and Caroline Ridlehuber Professorship respectively.

Dr. Appler was awarded the Kay Parker Professorship in Theatre Arts, which was established by Kay Timmons Parker and her husband, John Reid Parker, Jr. After retiring to Athens, Kay Parker became a vigorous volunteer for social causes, the arts, and theatre at Georgia. The Parkers learned about the UGA Department of Theatre and Film Studies by attending shows and watching their youngest child intern as a Young Dawg in the department. They saw first-hand the commitment and great work the faculty put in its students and were inspired to invest in the department's future.

Professor Ray was awarded the Caroline Reid Ridlehuber Professorship of Theatre Arts. The Ridlehuber Professorship was established in 2019 and called for a professor with an "outstanding record in creative activity, scholarly publications, and/or externally funded research."
