General Notes:

Stylistically, this show is a musical farce, fast-paced, with broad characters.

What is your character’s main trait?  Are they organized? Neurotic? Sexy? Lecherous? Whatever it is, amplify it!

We are setting the piece in the 80’s and will be using that period’s fashion and dance moves.

Despite the farcical nature of the show, it does tackle serious topics like sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and women’s rights. There is a lot of physical comedy that will involve close physical contact and moments of intimacy. We will be having a Theatrical Intimacy Basics workshop on Aug. 27 from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and we will have a Professional Intimacy Coach for the production.

Notes on Characters & Roles:
For Actors Auditioning for the Role of Doralee Please note that much of Doralee’s character is based in her Southern background, her audaciousness, and her comfortableness with her own sensuality.  If cast, Costuming and Makeup will involve enhancing and accentuating Doralee’s bust and derriere. If this represents a boundary for you, you may not wish to be considered for this role. Please use a Southern Dialect.
For Actors Auditioning for the Role of Hart Hart is an ass. That is the point. We need to hate him. But we also need to laugh at how ridiculous he is. He truly thinks he’s the smartest, sexiest man alive. He is not. The actor playing Hart gets to show comic range in the fantasy sections where the tables are turned. If cast, Hart will probably be given a paunch and a balding hair line. He will appear in boxers, a tank, and socks to be branded.
Actors Auditioning for the Role of Roz We will be approaching Roz as a fairly robotic, unemotional professional who hides her secret lustful nature. In her song, she will rip open her costume to reveal undergarments and dance passionately with fantasy Hart.
For Actors Auditioning for Violet A no-nonsense New York Dialect might be a good choice.
For Actors Auditioning for Tinsworthy Possible Dialect? Two thoughts: A Southern Drawl, à la KFC's Colonel; A British Dialect to give him an international feel.
For Actors Auditioning for Maria If you are a non-Latina actor called back for the role of Maria, we ask that you avoid using a dialect as written in the script.
For Actors Auditioning for Margaret She is a barely functioning alcoholic. She has no censor.
For Actors Portraying Men in the Ensemble Men in the office, except for Joe and Tinsworthy, are all misogynist, arrogant pigs.
Looking for Assistant Director I am looking for an Assistant Director for this production. I would prefer to have someone who has taken Directing Class. If you are not cast, please consider being involved as AD and contact me as soon as possible.
Dance Captain A Dance Captain will be drawn from the Ensemble.
Swings & Understudies Members of the Ensemble will be asked to understudy or serve as swings for at least one role.
